Having your internet capped…

I have been capped for over 2 weeks now, and I’m finding it very frustrating.

For those of you who don’t know what being “capped” is, I will explain it quite simply, e.g. when you go over your monthly download allowance of 20 gigabytes, your internet service provider will slow you down to dial-up speeds or maybe even slower.

This means one thing… you can’t do jack!  Everything is so slow, so there is no point in trying to download anything besides maybe browsing, even that tends to be slow or sometimes it won’t even download the page if the website is heavy on the graphics or it would simply timeout.

I guess it’s my fault for downgrading my internet plan from the Bigpond 60Gig Plan down to the 20Gig one.  The reason I changed it is because I managed to exceed even that download limit! lol!  But that wasn’t the problem, the 60gig plan is different from other plans because it doesn’t have the capping feature.  They charge you like 5 cents extra per megabyte over the 60gig limit.

So I didn’t check my usage until after I had already downloaded an extra 2 gigs, which turned out to be around $500 on top of the $149  monthly fee!

Well you could say it was my fault for not keeping an eye out on my download usage, maybe your right but think about it… 60 gigs which includes downloads and uploads that counts towards your usage, so if you use Bittorrents, than 60 gigs isn’t really that much.

The past few weeks has been very painful, it’s almost as if I have been in a car accident and I got paralyzed and now I’m a cripple!  However, there is good news in that my monthly internet cycle is about to end on the 21st, at the stroke of midnight the pain will go away!

In retrospect, perhaps I shouldn’t have downgraded to the 20gig plan, and so I will change back to the original plan that I had.  I will have to monitor my usage a whole lot more in the future if I want to avoid the stupid additional costs.
